Where LASIK is done in Dubai

Refractive surgery is performed in hospital eye departments and in dedicated refractive clinics, and both are licensed facilities rather than informal practices. A list of places offering it is long, and length is not information: the useful distinction is which laser platform is installed and in use on site.

That distinction has a practical edge. A clinic that examines you here and books the laser session somewhere else is not performing your procedure, and the surgeon who planned it may not be the one who delivers it. It is a reasonable question to ask plainly.

What the assessment has to measure

LASIK removes tissue from the cornea, so suitability is a question about how much tissue there is and how regular its shape is. Neither can be read from a prescription, and neither can be judged from a photograph of an eye.

An assessment that can answer it includes corneal tomography across the whole surface, pachymetry for thickness, a refraction measured in the clinic, and an examination of the ocular surface. Dryness matters twice over, because it affects both the plan and the weeks afterwards.

Reasons it is the wrong choice include an irregular or suspicious corneal shape, a prescription too high for the tissue available, an active eye infection, and pregnancy or breastfeeding. In each of those cases another option may be appropriate, which is a better outcome than proceeding regardless.

Licences, which is the Dubai part of the decision

Facilities and individual practitioners in Dubai are licensed by the Dubai Health Authority, and a surgeon may perform a procedure only where their own licence covers it. Both facts are checkable with the authority rather than with the clinic, and a clinic should be able to give you the details without hesitation.

This is the local half of the work. The clinical questions are the same anywhere in the world; the register to check them against is not, and in Dubai the authority is the one that issued the licence rather than a review site.

What to ask before you book

The same short list does most of the work at every clinic you consider. Write the answers down, because the comparison becomes straightforward once inclusions sit side by side rather than in memory.

• Which surgeon will perform the procedure, and does their licence cover it?
• Is the laser used for this procedure installed at this facility?
• What does the written quote include, and what is charged separately?
• What happens if a further treatment is needed, and who pays for it?
• Who do I contact once the included follow-up period has ended?

If the assessment points somewhere else

Being told that LASIK is not the right fit is not a refusal. A surface procedure such as PRK or TransPRK suits some corneas better, SMILE avoids a flap where that matters, and a prescription beyond what laser correction handles safely may be better addressed with a lens-based option.

The point of an assessment is to reach that answer, so a clinic that offers every patient the same operation is offering the operation rather than the assessment.
