Glasses and Contact Lenses
The two ways of correcting vision that are not surgery, and the ones most people will compare a procedure against.
Quick answer
Glasses and contact lenses are the default way to correct a refractive error, and comparing them with surgery is not like comparing two surgeries. They can be adjusted or abandoned; surgery cannot. They also need upkeep: lens hygiene with contacts, a current prescription with glasses.
Contact lens fitting and the safety of wearing them depend on your eye and your habits, which is why a prescription and a fitting are not the same thing.

- Glasses
Lenses that correct the focus of the eye without changing it. They remain the reference point against which every vision correction procedure is measured, and the one option that is fully reversible.
- Contact lenses
Lenses worn on the surface of the eye. They correct the same errors as glasses, and they change the shape of the cornea while worn, which is why wearing has to stop before a surgical measurement.

- Glasses & contact lenses
Glasses and contact lenses remain the benchmark every procedure is measured against. This section covers lens safety, wearing schedules, the complications that matter, and what to do about lenses before an examination or surgery.
- Vision problems & prescriptions
Short sightedness, long sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia explained in plain language, including why each one happens, how it is measured, and which of them laser vision correction can and cannot change.
Questions answered on these subjects
Specialist contact lens work, such as scleral or orthokeratology lenses for irregular corneas, is mentioned but not covered in depth.
These pages describe subjects, not people. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and none of it replaces an examination by a qualified ophthalmologist.
