How Much Does Laser Eye Surgery Cost in Dubai?

Almost everyone who researches refractive surgery starts with the price, and almost everyone who has been through it says afterwards that the price was not the part they should have focused on. Both instincts are understandable. Understanding what drives the number is genuinely useful, as long as it is not the only thing driving the decision.

Why is there no published price list?

Because refractive surgery in Dubai is delivered by private clinics operating in a competitive market, and each clinic sets its own pricing and its own inclusions. There is no single national tariff, and any figure presented as an average across the market is a calculation with no verifiable basis.

What can be compared is the structure: what a clinic includes, how it charges, and what it does when the first result needs refining.

Does the procedure change the cost?

It can. Different procedures use different equipment and take different amounts of surgical time:

• SMILE Pro requires the ZEISS VISUMAX 800 platform, which is a significant capital investment for a clinic.
• Femto LASIK requires both a femtosecond and an excimer laser.
• PRK requires only an excimer laser, which is one reason it can be priced lower, though the difference is often smaller than patients expect, because the cost of a procedure is dominated by surgeon time, facility and follow-up rather than by hardware amortisation.

A lower price for one procedure is not evidence that it is inferior care. It may reflect a genuinely simpler technical setup. What matters is whether the procedure is appropriate for your measurements, which is a separate question from its price.

What varies most between quotes?

The basis of the quote. Per eye or per procedure? Two eyes or one? Establish this first, because it is the most common source of an apples-to-oranges comparison.

Pre-operative imaging. A complete assessment includes topography, thickness measurement and a retinal examination. Some quotes include all of it; some list parts separately. A quote that excludes topography is not a quote for the same service.

Medication. Post-operative drops run for weeks (sometimes months) and represent a real cost. Included, or extra?

Follow-up. The number of appointments and the period they cover vary widely. This is the most common hidden difference.

Enhancement policy. Whether a refinement is included, for how long, and on what terms. This is the single most consequential inclusion, because it is the one you may need years later.

Surgeon and facility fees. Whether the operating surgeon’s fee is bundled or itemised.

Does insurance cover it?

Refractive surgery is generally treated as elective and is typically excluded. Exceptions exist where there is a medical indication: a large anisometropia, for instance, where the difference between the two eyes cannot be corrected satisfactorily with glasses or contacts.

How should you compare two quotes?

Itemise both quotes against the same list, then compare line by line rather than in total. Our cost guide has an interactive checklist for exactly this.

When one quote comes in lower, the question is not whether the difference is suspicious but what specifically it excludes. Sometimes the answer is legitimate and appropriate for your circumstances: for example if you live in Dubai and follow-up is easy to arrange separately. Sometimes the answer is a shorter follow-up period that will matter later.

What this means for you

Treat the price as one input among several, and treat the inclusions as the more important one. A quote that covers a thorough assessment, both eyes, medication, a defined follow-up period and a clear enhancement policy is telling you what the clinic’s standard of care looks like. That is more informative than the total.

Get two or three quotes, ask the same questions of each, and write the answers next to each other. The pattern usually becomes obvious, and it is rarely about the number at the bottom.
